History

The Saint Mary’s University Faculty Union (SMUFU) is a certified trade union under the Nova Scotia Trade Union Act. The Faculty Union was established in 1974 to promote and maintain harmonious relations between the University and its Faculty. In 1989 the University’s Professional Librarians joined SMUFU.

Organization

The Union is directed by members who are elected to act on the Executive Committee and union committees. Members of the Executive Committee are elected by the Faculty Union every year. The Executive Committee consists of:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Three member-at-large
  • The Immediate Past President (ex-offico)
  • The Chair of the Grievance Committee (ex-offico)
  • The Faculty Union’s Chief Negotiator (ex-offico)
